Gene Cutler

Obituary for Eugene R. Cutler

I am saddened to announce the passing of Gene Cutler. Gene was a member of the Riverside High School Class of 1965.

Eugene R. Cutler, 77, of Painesville Twp., died January 20, 2024 at Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born August 7, 1946 in Painesville. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran who proudly served his country during Vietnam, Gene worked as a postal worker for the United States Post Office in Willowick. He volunteered at Tripoint Medical Center, where he visited other veterans while they were in the hospital. Gene enjoyed traveling, especially going on short one day trips with his best K-9 friend, Sandy, working in his yard, woodworking and being active in his church. Survivors include his siblings, Kenneth Cutler, Becky (Scott) Mitchell, Shirley (David) Minor and Pam Kelly; and many nieces and nephews, his aunt, his cousins and his many, many friends who were always there for Gene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie; son, John; and his parents, Edmond and Elinor. Rick, Don, Nathan and Don, you were all a blessing to Gene and he appreciated all of you so very much. Gene worked so hard to beat the road blocks that were sent his way, he never gave up even though his body was getting weaker. His goal was to get back to his home, which he loved working in, as well as nursing his flowers because they were plants that someone had given to him. Gene was an amazing brother, always, always ready to help in every capacity, too many to list. He was loved by so many from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kirtland, where he first attended with his wife and his son. Gene then joined the LDS Church in Perry after moving to Painesville Township. We are, as a family, going to miss our go to guy so much. Gene’s family would like to especially thank Dr. Frania, his staff, the staff at Hospice of the Western Reserve and all the other medical staff for the wonderful care they provided to Gene.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral service to honor Gene’s life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter – day Saints, 8751 Kirtland Rd., Kirtland, OH 44094. Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, P.O. Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192, donate online at www.hospicewr.org, a veteran’s charity of one’s choice or to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
